Art Week 2022: ANDROMEDA 8220 TAKES OVER – NOT JUST ANOTHER ART WEEK EVENT

In connection with the current exhibition “Amalgamation no 7” by Ruby Ndoye, Aysha Amin with Andromeda 8220 invites you to an open conversation about art, health and activism when showing the documentary “Dope is Death” by Mia Donovan

“Dope is Death” takes us back in time to South Bronx in the late 60’s and tells the story of the radical movement whose goal it was to end heroin addiction through acupuncture and a more just health system.

The movement was led by Dr. Mutulu Shakur, Tupacs stepdad, in collaboration with The Black Panthers and The Young Lords. Through archive material and interviews, we get insight into how the acupuncture clinic in South Bronx became prominent and – despite trouble with financing at times – is still active today.

The film is introduced by Aysha Amin and Sahar Pour. Sahar Pour will talk about Dr. Mutulu Shakur’s significance for the fact that today, seven years later, still runs her drop-in acupuncture clinic STIK MIG in Blågårdsgade.

After the film, the participants can receive a free NADA acupuncture treatment by Sahar Pour.
